I wrote this poetry on a camping trip immediately after the start of my first (and so far, only) relationship.
Fighting Life
salmon swim
against the stream
and as they fight
their scales gleam
and queer folk too
will have to fight
to keep alive
that inner light
don’t fight alone
together we’ll strive
to show our love
together we’ll dive
into this world
and like two doves
bring peace and joy
to once forbidden love Flirting
joking, teasing
still serious
laughing, hiding
blushing, on a bus
knowing how
to bring a smile
flirting shamelessly
full of style
simple way
of showing love
being silly
having fun
yet even joking
meaning everything I say
You are beautiful
adorable
cute
and yes, sometimes
……
Jumping
a splash in the moonlight
just one little flash
just one salmon jumping
not quite wanting to be heard
but then comes the light
it’s a new day
many more are jumping
along this rocky stream
to get to the place
where they want to be
to find their true love
and live out destiny Love is…
love is amazing
laughing, crying,
emotions galore
love is intense
ocean waves breaking
across many shores
love is oblivious
to gender, and preference
knowing only what’s felt in the core
lifting up,
getting down,
always wanting
leading on,
teasing us,
‘til I am at your door the Nature of Love
nature surrounds
love consumes
crickets chirp
hearts sing
river runs
mind roams
all on one topic
you
skies shine blue
and I love you Second Awakening
mind ever thinking
always logical
First awakening,
heart feels pain
wonders why
but knows it’s real
Second awakening,
heart feels love
brain knows why
heart knows it’s real
brains think alike
share everything
hearts feel alike
connection now
soon, snuggling Something was Missing
life moves
I am still
something is missing
then you arrive
free me from myself
I was missing someone to talk to
who would talk to me
someone to be corny with
to flirt with
I was missing somebody to love
now I got somebody to love of Trees and Lovers
trees grow up
solid next to each other
over time branches intertwine
so two people may
rooted in each others lives
slowly intertwine
and if one is chopped down
the stump will stay behind
as a reminder
that those two
were once intertwined Waiting
sitting in line
a boat comes in
earlier than needed
but it’s fine
the line moves
you don’t get on
the next boat comes
better than the last
takes you and only you
life is good Water or Love
wading in
surrounded by new water
screams of shock
become giggles of pleasure
playing in the ripples
flirting with them
moving slowly
getting oriented
charging ahead
“This is fun”
running out
water is too cold
“But it’s so fun”
right back in
Even though it’s new and scary
still coming back for more
